“The Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute (CDRI), a nonprofit organization, was established in December 1973. Its Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center & Botanical Gardens is on a 507-acre site, comprised of semi-desert grasslands and igneous rock outcrops. Geologic features include Modesta Canyon, a unique riparian canyon with a year-round spring, and Clayton’s Overlook, with its spectacular hilltop vistas in addition to a Geologic Exhibit describing each of the mountain formations in view. CDRI offers ~ 5 miles of hiking trails, Botanical Gardens, the Cactus Museum Collection, Mining Exhibit, Bird Blind with a 30′ long water feature and viewing area, and the Powell Visitor Center with additional exhibits and gift shop.”
